Its was reported that immigration authorities separated more than 1,500 additional children from their families before its “zero tolerance” policy was fully implemented. The total number of children separated has increased to about 4,300. This begs the question; What is wrong with our government? Separating children from their families is heartbreaking. The conditions at our border patrols are gut wrenching and must be improved. Lee Gelernt, the lead attorney for American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) told CBS News,”What’s shocking is when we went into court, the government said there is approximately 2,800 families that were separated. We worked for months and months trying to find those families and reunite those families,” Gelernt said. “Then we found out only because of an internal watchdog that broke the story that there may have been thousands more families separated … that the government never told us about, the court or Congress.” Recently, Rev Kirsten John Foy.
These immigration policies violate the due process and civil rights of migrants. Further this ordeal has created an unnecessary crisis at the southern border.
